Aloe is one of those super products that falls in line with kelp, comfrey and alfalfa- it offers an exceptional level of plant benefits in a simple format. Aloe Vera is one of the richest plant sources of saponins, and in addition to this, is a very good source of salycilic acids.

However, a little goes a very long way. Simply take 1/8th of a teaspoon and mix with 1 gallon of water. The flakes are easier to mix than the powder, so you can agitate the aloe flakes in 1 cup of water first, in a protein shake container, and shake vigorously. Then add this to the 1 gallon of water for a foliar application.

As this product contains no preservatives, do not attempt to store any material that you have mixed with water. It should be used within the same day that you mixed it up.

Storage Instructions: Store in a cool dry place and make sure no moisture can enter the bag for longer shelf life.

There are two things that anyone should do when trying to build the soil biology in their gardens- one is to grow a cover crop on the soil at all times possible and the other is to use a mulch like organic barley straw. When applying a mulch, you only need an inch or so of mulch to provide a good cover. This helps to accomplish two important aspects of good soil health. The first is that it helps to maintain the moisture levels in your soil. If you allow the top levels of your soil to dry out, then you risk killing off valuable soil biology in that upper layer that you have worked hard to establish. Sencondly, a good mulch provides a great ecosystem for the larger biology in the soil, especially the worms. You often will see worms on the surface of the soil scurry away from the light as the established mulch is pulled off.

Fulvic acid is one of the most important tools that should be in everyone's plant health tool kit. When used as a drench, or better yet with your foliar routine, it is essentially an 'amplifier' which increases the efficiency and impact of the other nutrient components that are delivered along with it.

Ful-Power is made through a biodigestion, or fermentation process where microbes convert insoluble humic substances into the soluble, low-molecular weight fraction [LMW], or the fluvic fraction. The high-molecular weight fraction [HMW] is left behind in this process as a humic fraction. This HMW humic material is too large to be absorbed by the plant, and is used instead as a soil conditioner.

The LMW fluvic fraction however is small enough to penetrate the leaf, cell and even the mitochondria within the cell, so it is called a 'bio available' fraction. The fact that it readily will pass through the plant cell wall helps it to grab onto plant nutrients and pull them along through the cell wall as well- delivering these nutrients directly into the cell structure where they are required. This improvement in uptake alone means that you should consider reducing your nutrient application by 10-25%.

Because of this low molecular weight, fluvic acid is an excellent addition to all foliar feeding routines, as it helps the other components penetrate into the cells, amplifying their effect and improving their efficiency.

Dilution rates go a long way- use at 1:100- 1:200 depending on application methods.

What if you could significantly increase the amount of nutrients in the soil that your roots can access? What if you could greatly increase the area that your roots can receive expanded nutritional benefit from?

Hold that thought, and now consider this- in one cubic centimetre of soil, there can be as much as 100 meters of mycorrhizal fungi. And now for the important fact- there are some types of mycorrhizal fungi that will enter into a symbiotic relationship with your plants, and potentially deliver the benefits indicated above.

But before we go there, let’s get some terminology down. The term ‘mycorrhiza’ does not mean ‘fungi’. Rather, it references the symbiotic relationship, or mutually beneficial relationship (think good ol’ give & take) between fungi and roots. The plural of mycorrhiza is mycorrhizae, while mycorrhizal fungi is the term used to describe the type of mutually beneficial fungi that interact with your plant roots.

There are are two main mycorrhizae- endomycorrhizal fungi, which we are interested in and ectomycorrhizal fungi, which colonize the roots of some trees. Endomycorrhizal fungal hyphae- exceedingly thin fungi strands- enter the cells of the roots to exchange nutrients there. Of the endo variety, only two interact with your plants- Glomus Intaradices and to a lesser extent, Glomus Mosseae. Often you will find Intaradices as a stand alone product in the marketplace, as it is the main colonizer of most plants.

Choose a product that has as high a spore/propagule count per gram as possible. This will maximize your chances of colonizing the roots of your plants. If you look at many of the mycorrhizal products available, you will find on the label their spore count- usually stated in spores or propagules per gram. Some are as low as 100 spores per gram. We have sourced the most concentrated product we can find, which comes in at 12,000 spores per gram.

The best way to colonize the roots is to apply the spores, in a powder form, to your seed at planting time. Other than this, apply the powder directly to the plant roots when transplanting.

Humic and fulvic acids have long been known by science to actively promote strong and vibrant plant growth. These essential ingredients of a healthy soil are formed through the breakdown of decaying plant matter over many years, as the organic matter is transformed by microbial growth into smaller and smaller molecules. The fulvic acid is a derivative of humic acid and has electrical charges that allow its molecules to draw trace minerals and enzymes to their surfaces. These fulvic molecules have essentially become bio acive chelators, combining available nutrients that are then easily absorbed by the plant roots, along with their bonded mineral content. The nutrient availability to the plant is very efficiently and significantly increased, resulting in larger yields, along with an enhanced development of secondary metabolites, such as aroma, flavour and overall terpene level production. Fulvic acid is fully active at all ph levels and is therefor more efficient than humic acid.

We have chosen the Mr. Fulvic brand after extensive review of various fulvic products. Not all humic sources are equal. Some fulvics are derived from coal by products, known as Leonardite. While these sources yield some value as soil amendments, they do not have the same complex mix of more than 70 trace minerals, elements, organic acids, and electrolytes that other humate sources have. Extractions from these sources result in salt forms of fulvic acid, and do not contain the rich quantities of organic acids that are contained in Mr. Fulvic, which is mined from unique deposits of humic shale. These fulvics are extracted with a proprietary purified water technique, resulting in a production that is rich in trace minerals, beneficial organic acids, and remarkably high levels of fulvic acids. No other product on the market comes close to the 12.5% fulvic level concentration found in Mr. Fulvic. Omri listed.

There is an inevitable nutrient loss from any soil that has the harvest removed- the nutrients that were taken up by the plant are simply lost when the plant material is not composted back to the soil that the plant came from. Consequently, a 'reamend' of the soil is recommended. We have created our own reamend mix for just this purpose.

'Brix' is a measurement that can be made using a brix meter and a drop of the leaf sap from your plant. The meter is able to calculate the degree of refraction of light passing through the meter, and this calculation can be directly related to the mineral/sugar saturation found in the sap- which in turn points to the overall plant health.

By increasing the macro and micro minerals that are available in your soil, you can see an increase in your brix readings in your plants. A higher brix reading translates into a higher nutritional content and better overall plant health.

Our High Brix top dressing is a blend of Volcanophos rock dust, Huplaso basalt, fish bone meal, feather meal, insect frass, kelp meal, alfalfa meal and GrowSil.

Insect frass is a very interesting product. Frass is to insects what castings are to worms- it is the waste product left over from the consumption of vegetable matter by insect populations. The term ‘frass’ has German roots, and means ‘devouring like a beast’, which points to the ravenous devouring of vast amounts of plant material, resulting in a type of well rounded compost produced by herbivore digesting insects.

In searching for the best frass source we could find, we settled on a product that is the result of a black soldier fly operation, the larvae of which are one of natures best recyclers. These larvae are fed traceable, pre consumer waste food from farms and processors. Over 30% of the world’s food is wasted before it reaches the end consumer, and this is processed by the larvae into a sustainable, 100% organic product that provides diverse amino acids and beneficial microbial populations.

It is harvested and then run through a hammer mill, producing a very fine textured product that readily breaks down into a bio available form for the plants uptake. This also allows it to be water soluble, which benefits fertigation and hydroponic practices. When mixing soil, use 1 cup per cubic foot of soil. It can be used as an amendment by sprinkling a bit over the top of the soil every few weeks while the growth is building. Nitrogen Fixing Bacteria

Azotobacter chroococcum –This bacterial species creates an enzyme, Nitrogenase, which reducesnitrogen (N2) to ammonia (NH3). (1) This provides Nitrogen forthe plant. To top it off,this doesn’t cause any damage to our waterways via excess nitrates as Nitrogen fertilizers can.

Azotobacter vinelandii– This bacterial species also creates the enzyme, Nitrogenase, which reducesnitrogen (N2) to ammonia (NH3). Provides the same benefits as above, but adds to the diversity and nitrogen provided.

Azospirillum brasilense – Out of the species discussed, this is probably the most well known. As with the previous strains, creates the enzymes Nitrogenase for nitrogen fixing. In addition it creates a number of growth promoting hormones. (2)

Azospirillum lipoferum –This bacterial species is mostly known for its use fixing nitrogen for legumes, however, among other plants it can also increases the number of lateral roots and root hairs. This enlarges the root surface available for nutrients, resulting in a higher nutrient uptake by inoculated roots and an improved waterabsorption of the plant. (3)

(3) – Azospirillum, a free-living nitrogen-fixing bacterium closely associated with grasses: genetic, biochemical and ecological aspects

Bradyrhizobium japonicum –This is a nitrogen fixing microbial species that associates with Legumes.


Bacillus megaterium –This strain can produces organic acids that naturally chelate phosphorus into a plant soluble state withcalcium. It also protect against Fusarium wilt, a common pathogen for plants. (4) It creates proteins, and enzymes that are beneficial to plants.(5) It even does it part with bioremediation. (6)

Bacillus polymyxa (Paenibacillus) –Thisplant growth promoting rhizobacterium is capable of fixingnitrogen, protection against some forms of bacterial wilt, and even creates a host of beneficialplant hormonessuch as polymyxin, and beta-amylase which are capable of solubilizing phosphorus into exchangeable form.(7)Interestingly, this strain of bacteria is even found in Neosporin®, because of its ability to produce compounds that are antimicrobial against bacteria that can cause human infection.

Bacillus Spp. – With Bacillus Spp., it creates hydrogen ions that encourage hydrolysis, which when combined with the organic acids it produceshydroxy carbolic acids which aids in solubilization of Silica.

Frateuria aurantia –This is a Proteobacteria species, named after Joseph Frateur, a Belgian microbiologist, that solubilizes Potassium. (8)

Bacillus subtilis – Here’sa champion when it comes to bacteria, used on an industrial scale. Because it can break down many forms of proteins and other organic compounds it plays a large role in regulation of the carbon and nitrogen cycle. It promotes the viability and growth of lactobacillus, part of why our blend works so well with EM-1 or any form of EM-1 Kashi.(9)

Pumice is a relatively light weight porous stone material that is used in soils to provide aeration to mixes. Because it is a stone material, it does not break down in the soil. Its porous nature allows it to suck up and hold onto moisture, while permitting excess water to flow through the mix easily.

Its alternative in a soil mix is rice hulls. Some prefer the pumice as rice hulls will eventually break down. However, in our own observation this takes at least 4-5 years to occur. And considering that when rice hulls break down, they release their significant silica content to the surrounding soil, then there are obvious advantages to both materials in a soil mix.

We get a lot of folk come thru who are transitioning from a hydro approach to a living soil approach. Most are busy reading, listening and learning the science behind a living soil system. Surfactants, or wetting agents, are a valuable tool in the garden. Some of the best wetting agents are derived from yucca, which has a high saponin content. This natural compound of the Yucca Schidigera plant helps the plant to overcome water stress and when extracted, can be used to improve the soil's absorption and dispersal of both water and nutrients by reducing the natural surface tension. This allows plant roots to absorb more of what is available to them as the water and nutrients are distributed more evenly.

Yucca powder reduce unwanted salt buildup by reducing dry pocket formation within the soil and washing concentrated salts past the root zone (they have also been known to help keep drip emitters clean). In the case of excessive mineral buildup, yucca powders will reduce the amount of water necessary to flush the soil. Saponins and complex carbohydrates present in yucca provide slow-release food sources for many soil-dwelling microorganisms. As a result, many compost tea recipes use yucca. Yucca commonly contain micronutrients such as iron, zinc, manganese and copper as well.

Anyone who has mixed their own soil, has seen how much effort it takes to get the peat to take up the moisture- it seems to resist water absorption. However mix a bit of yucca powder into your soil mix and you will quickly see a change in the rate of water uptake.

Surfactants, or wetting agents, are a valuable tool in the garden. Some of the best wetting agents are derived from yucca, which has a high saponin content. This natural compound of the Yucca Schidigera plant helps the plant to overcome water stress and when extracted, can be used to improve the soil's absorption and dispersal of both water and nutrients by reducing the natural surface tension. This allows plant roots to absorb more of what is available to them as the water and nutrients are distributed more evenly.

Yucca extracts reduce unwanted salt buildup by reducing dry pocket formation within the soil and washing concentrated salts past the root zone (they have also been known to help keep drip emitters clean). In the case of excessive mineral buildup, yucca extracts will reduce the amount of water necessary to flush the soil. Saponins and complex carbohydrates present in yucca extracts provide slow-release food sources for many soil-dwelling microorganisms. As a result, many compost tea recipes use yucca extracts. Yucca extracts commonly contain micronutrients such as iron, zinc, manganese and copper as well.

Anyone who has mixed their own soil, has seen how much effort it takes to get the peat to take up the moisture- it seems to resist water absorption. However mix a bit of yucca extract into the water that you are using to hydrate the sphagnum and you will quickly see a change in the rate of water uptake.
